Exciting news for Hobbit fans who can work in New Zealand!

Tom Hunt  from The Dominion Post writes,

The bulky, the skinny, the short, the tall, and those with ”character faces” – your time has come.

A casting call has gone out for The Hobbit and virtually anyone in Wellington qualifies, as long they’ve got unique qualities.

Men under 163cm and women under 155cm, big men with ”character faces” and any women with the same, men with large biceps, and slim and athletic men and women between 165cm and 203cm are being asked to audition.

The casting call is at The Belmont Hall, next to The Belmont Primary School, 709 Western Hutt Rd, from 1-4pm on January 28.

To be eligible, you must be over 16, entitled to work in New Zealand and living in Wellington.

This intriguing opportunity makes fans like myself who are a ways away from middle-earth jealous of those who are able to audition. Break a leg to those auditioning and stay tuned for more updates!

    I second notquiteshortenough.  What does ‘character faces’ mean?  Also, does ‘big men’ mean overweight or just tall?

    can you or do you resemble A dwarf, elf, Orc, Ogre, Troll, Hobbit, a bird, or any other possible race within middle earth .. then you have a chance to be an extra in the large battles scenes .. the better the face the closer to the stars you can be placed. The MORE races you can fill in with the better your chances and usefulness. That’s pretty much what this type of casting call is for, filler that looks right.   Good Luck MANY wish they were there.

    A while back ( over a year ago) I went to something similar for people under 155cm, I think it was for a size double, do I need to come to this one as well? Or will the information they gathered there  be transferred?

    I was there the entire day, it was a complete disaster! I was surprised a first class production company couldn’t manage a casting call. There was no order, nobody managing a line, and it ended up just merging together into a mob. I got there early, and people that came hours later ended up in front of me…here is my recap of what went down…
