Official Hobbit Titles Announced and Words from Peter

Even though we had announced our knowledge of the official titles of The Hobbit movies, Warner Brothers made it official over the weekend and publicly announced the official titles of both Hobbit movies.  As we previously expected, the first movie will be named, The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey with the second movie taking on the book title as The Hobbit : There and Back Again.

The announcement also confirmed the same release dates with the first planned to be released December of 2012 and the second December 2013.

With the studios now being more public about the official movie details, Peter Jackson has been more inclined to answer questions that have been looming for quite some time (and will continue to do so).  One big one, which is whether or not we will see The White Council attacking Dul Guldor.  As an answer, Jackson said the following,

This was quite a popular topic, with JOHN LIDDLE, TOBY PHILLIPS and SETH DONALD, along with many others, asking variations of this same question.

I’m not going to say just what and when, but I will confirm that both the White Council and Dol Guldur will feature in the movies. And not just in one scene either. Just how to visualise it has been a challenge, but fortunately Alan Lee and John Howe went crazy with ideas, and it should look pretty cool.

In fact to celebrate the start of these 20 questions, I’ll show you an exclusive photo of the White Council planning the attack on Dol Guldur! Even if you don’t want to be hit with spoilers, you should still take a look (is referring to picture above).

Also, as other news, Peter Jackson also made it official that Orlando Bloom will be returning as Legolas in The Hobbit.  We also announced this a while back, but it is always nice to hear it from the horses mouth.  We have also heard that his moment will be brief, but will earn him a pretty penny.

The picture above was taken on The Hobbit set and shows a comical version of The White council with some of their fiercest weapons…  It is great to have a director and cast with a sense of humor who are willing to give plenty of updates.  More news to come shortly!

Very, very, very glad to see that Dol Guldur will feature. I always thought that the “filler” story between the events of “Hobbit” and “LotR” would be fascinating.
