New Hobbit Movie Titles

the hobbit

Hobbit buzz is in the air due to recent announcement of Peter Jackson’s decision to turn the orginially planned two-movie feature into a full trilogy.  Since the announcement, other new developments have been on going.  Insiders at TORn have gotten wind of new movie titles that New Line Cinema have registered just this past week.  The titles are as follows:

The Desolation of Smaug

The Battle of Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies

Of course such a move by the studio does not guarantee that the movie will be named one of the above listed, but it does show what the production staff is kicking around and what content will most likely be featured.  The other question that is posed is if the original two movies will change from their original names, or if they will change the order of them.  What name appeals to you more?

sounds like someone is being greedy.  The book is half the size of any one of the trilogy books.  Why not make one long movie…

    Battle of Five Armies

    You know this… how?

  • Jack Colby

How do you know?  Even Jackson only recently learned there would be a third film.  Judging by the book as if the films will certainly follow the same is probably not a wise way to go about this.

  • Jack Colby

You already said the answer.  Someone is being greedy.  look no further for the truth behind this.

The Desolation of Smaug sounds too wordy.  I’ll be surprised if they go with a title that has a word like desolation in it, not to mention the name of a character like Smaug.  Hollywood likes simple titles for simple minds.  Easier to sell tickets that way.

But let’s not kid ourselves.  90% of audiences will call these Hobbit 1, Hobbit 2, and Hobbit 3.

I remember the first time I read the book, so I was very surprised that there would be a battle at the end. There are many who have not read the book, but is fan of the films. so why do not let them know about this battle? and call the film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug? believe many may be surprised. Anyway, I think PJ and the team will select the best.

The trilogy is a bad idea… maybe for the dollars its a smart move… but who wants to wait that long? And I mean by having the trilogy, if they deviate from the original story too much, how are they going to justify it? It would want to be pretty spot on…

Can’t they do, ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again p1″ and “p2″ as the 2nd and 3rd films? I mean, Harry Potter and the Twilight series pulled that little trick.

  • Dunarwen

I like “The Desolation of Smaug” best because I don’t think the battle of the five armies will be in the third film. Also the area around the Lonely Mountain probably remained pretty desolate for quite a few years after the events of the Hobbit, (I’m staying on the safe side and not putting in any spoilers!).

  • Dunarwen

I don’t think the titles should be dumbed down because the films will be seen by so many fans who will appreciate a title with a character’s name in it. Smaug is my favorite dragon ever, and desolation is a brilliant word! Infact I get really annoyed when Hollywood dumbs stuff down, so please don’t do that to us PJ!
