Let The Hobbit Romance Rumors Begin

With Peter Jackson announcing the recent casting of Lost’s Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel, daughter of Mirkwood, rumors are abounding of what new romantic role will be played in The Hobbit movies.  No doubt, Peter Jackson is a BIG fan of romance to be illustrated in his films and there lacks such one in the actual Hobbit novel (unless you count Bilbo’s love for food!).

Indeed with the past rumors of Itaril maybe being added to the Hobbit cast, it was evident Peter Jackson was fishing for romance.  Indeed it seems he’s found it and it took some additional writing and character creation above and beyond what is found in the actual canonized Hobbit book.  It was known that indeed Jackson was going to go a bit outside the bounds of what the book covers to make the movies flow, but this was the first real example we’ve seen of a new creation.  And responses are mixed…

Some feel that any deviation from the actual story is diluting the original novel.  Many trust Jackson and his ability to weave new stories while keeping the core story of the novel in place and not offending the fans.  At any rate, it’s all too soon to tell, but we have full trust in Jackson and his team.

We find it no coincidence that Luke Evans, who is deemed to play the Role of Bard ‘The Bowman’ and Lilly were casted around the same time.  Indeed, Bard is no doubt a strong hero character in the book, and with the recent heart throb, Evans casted, one can only assume he plays a romantic character as well.  Though there is no talk of a romance with Bard in the novel, he does visit the Elves and fights beside them, which is a great opportunity to find a romance, much like Aragorn.

The two casted together leads us to believe that there were “chemistry” auditions so that indeed the romance on screen is believable.  This is common in romantic casting.

As this is all rumor, do not be surprised if we see a spicy romance heat up between Bard and Tauriel, as Peter Jackson has already made it clear that Legolas is not involved in this romance.  Only time will tell.  What do you think?  Click the link below to share in our message board.

    Love between an elf and human should be epic and exlusive, so I fell bad about this. Luthien and Beren, Eärendil and Elwing and Aragorn and Arwens love story is epic and brings big changes, not only to their culture but to Middle Earth.

    So a love story between Bard and Tauriel would feel unfitted to the story as a whole epic and would downcast the epic romance between Aragorn and Arwen in Lord of the Rings movie.

    I am happy for legolas to not have a romantic dalliance.  She could form a friendship with the dwarves and especially Bilbo Baggins.

    In the LOTR Gimli was besotted with Galadriel. Could the same thing happen with the dwaves and Bilbo Baggins when confronted with a beautiful maiden after their meeting in Mirkwood. Bringing comfort to them when held captive by Thranduil?

    Also with aragorn and arwen there was a romance in the book (although barely mentioned). I don’t recall romance in the hobbit. Is it really needed in the film? I don’t see why.

    You also forget the when Legolas saw Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth he commented “It is long since the people of Nimrodel left the woodlands of Lorien, and yet still one may see that not all sailed from Amroth’s haven west over the water.” The line of Princes of Dol Amroth would thus seem to result from the union of an elf and a man (or woman) which has not in itself become “epic and exclusive” but perhaps more common. It is not just the prince of Dol Amroth favoured with elvish looks, it would seem that many of his household knights are similarly imbued with an elvish quality that lifts the hearts of those around them during the Siege of Gondor.

    It’s a shame Imrahil was written out of the films – he was always one of my favourites in the Gondor bits.

    I refer you to the blurb on the back of “Bored of the Rings” as to why any relationship between an elf and a hobbit is just WRONG. 

    Gimli’s love for Galadriel is clearly courtly, platonic love as is found in the Arthurian romances. He never says “Hey, Galadriel lass, never mind that Celeborn fella, let’s away to Gretna for a quick marriage jumping over an anvil.” 

    Courtly, platonic love doesn’t make good Hollywood, which is why they downplayed Gimli’s continuing devotion to the Lady of the Golden Wood whenever anyone speaks ill of her.

    oh no, Oh No, Oh NO, OH NO! Peter Jackson i’m talking directly to you. i love you peter and your work and what you did with lord of the rings, but really? Really? Are you serious? The Hobbit is epic, bit its not the lord of the rings. its a children’s book. Please, please, PLEASE don’t screw this one up! the hobbit is my (and  thousands) favorite book of all time! romance does not belong here. please just do us millions if protective purists a favor and take tauriel out. i cheered when i found out itariel wasnt in the film and i had hope that there wasnt going to be romance and the movie might actually be good, but now i dont think i’ll watch it.

     Ergh… if Peter makes a love interest for Legolas I will frickin’ FLIP! xD  I always have this imaginary dream of one day living with someone like Legolas… if there’s a love interest meh dream shall be crushed v.v So as long as it’s not Legolas… I’m gewd. But I really think it sucks that they might put romance in the movie… The Hobbit is an innocent little kid’s book. I read it when I was 7! To put romance in there is just wrong! What the heck is the matter with Hollywood?! DON’T RUIN THE AWESOMENESS
